What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string (hash) created from your email address may be shared with the Gravatar service to see if you use it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.


Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors can download and extract location data from images on the website.


Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may opt in to save your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These cookies will last for one year.

  • When visiting the login page, a temporary cookie will determine if your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when the browser is closed.
  • When logging in, cookies will save your login information and screen preferences:
    • Login cookies last for 2 days.
    • Screen option cookies last for 1 year.
    • “Remember Me” keeps you logged in for 2 weeks.
    • Logging out deletes login cookies.

Embedded Content from Other Websites and third-Party Services (Eventbrite)

We currently use Eventbrite to manage ticketing and registrations for our workshops and events. When you purchase a ticket through Eventbrite, your information (such as name, email, and payment details) is collected and processed by Eventbrite in accordance with their privacy policy: https://www.eventbrite.com/support/articles/en_US/Troubleshooting/eventbrite-privacy-policy.
We may access some of this information (e.g. your name and email) to manage attendance and communicate about the event. We do not receive or store your payment information directly.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you visited those websites directly. These sites may collect data, use cookies, and track your interactions if you’re logged into those services.


Analytics

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold, including any data you’ve provided. You may also request that we delete any personal data we hold. This excludes data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
