Some days, creativity feels like a mountain to climb — like we need the perfect setup, the quiet house, the cleared to-do list. But the truth is, some of my favourite creative breakthroughs have started in the margins:
A quick scribble.
A 10-minute collage.
A snatched moment with my glue stick and a magazine page.
Because here’s the thing: 10 minutes of creativity a day adds up.
That’s 70 minutes a week.
Over 5 hours a month.
A full 60 hours a year.
Sixty. Hours. Of. Making.
And those moments matter.
I remember when the kids were babies and those ten minutes made a huge difference to my day — a stolen pocket of time that was just mine.
I remember the days when I had no inspiration at all, and ten minutes of cutting and sticking sparked a whole new idea.
I remember when I felt nervous about a new direction — unsure if I was “good enough,” or if I even had the energy to try.
And the times I desperately wanted a new direction, but didn’t know where to start… so I picked up my pens and just began.
There were evenings where ten minutes of creativity helped me feel like myself again.
There were mornings when I had nothing to say — until colour and paper helped me speak in a different way.
Some days, it was pure stress relief. Other times, it quietly reminded me that I’m still a maker, even when everything else feels like chaos.
Ten minutes won’t change your whole life in one go — but it will reconnect you with the part of yourself that knows how to play, how to imagine, how to create without overthinking.
And sometimes, that’s exactly where everything else begins.
They shift your mindset. They open a door back to yourself. They remind you that making doesn’t have to be perfect or polished — it just has to be yours.
Creativity isn’t about finding time — it’s about
taking
it.
A quick paint splatter.
A messy collage.
A few lines of a poem.
A doodle on a napkin.
Ten minutes can change the tone of your whole day.

And if you ever feel stuck, or unsure how to begin, that’s where I come in.
At Playful Works, I run workshops and mentoring sessions designed for people who want to reconnect with their creativity — whether you’re just getting started or ready to turn your ideas into something bigger. You don’t need to be “an artist.” You just need to be open to exploring.
We make space for:
- Creative play, without pressure.
- Building confidence in your unique voice.
- Turning tiny ideas into tangible projects.
Want to start small?
Here’s a challenge:
Set a timer for 10 minutes. Grab some paper scraps, paint, or whatever you’ve got. Don’t overthink it. Just begin.
Let the process surprise you.
